Sponsoring The Glasshouse International Centre for Music
Once again, we are delighted to announce our sponsorship of The Glasshouse International Centre for Music. We are committed to supporting the charity as a Silver Business Champion now.
The Glasshouse is an iconic building which stands proudly on the Quayside in Gateshead. It’s a place where you can hear rock legends or pop icons on the same night as folk trios or opera singers. Where new musicians are nurtured and showcased on the same stages as platinum-selling performers. And where youth choirs and tambourine-shaking toddlers practise in the same spaces as our acclaimed orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia.
The Glasshouse is not just a building, but a music charity using the power of music to bring joy, transform lives and connect people of all ages. It is a registered charity and is focused on making sure all of the facilities it offers are available to anyone – no matter where they’re from, how old they are and how much money they have.
The Royal Northern Sinfonia calls The Glasshouse home, but their music travels about the north of England, including Cumbria. The 37 musicians are at the top of their game and perform symphonies, film soundtracks, string quartets; in fact they’re always looking for new, fresh sounds.
Our Marketing Specialist, Karen Graham recently visited and enjoyed their performance of ABBA hits. Karen is pictured below with Development Consultant for The Glasshouse, Rebecca Surtees-Brown.
Graham Jenkins, our managing director says: “Supporting The Glasshouse and its activities in the community is important to us as a business. We’re very much focused on and supportive of charities whose facilities and activities are available to all across the region. Their work and the joy it brings to many are important legacies. To be recognised as a business partner once again is incredibly heartening.”
Karen Graham says after her visit: “I’ve been very lucky to enjoy a wide variety of performances at The Glasshouse and the venue is absolutely first-class. Seeing the NRS perform was amazing and awe-inspiring!
“Speaking with Rebecca during my visit, it’s amazing how far-reaching their work in the community goes. They travel out and about inspiring the young and the old to participate in music and this can be life-changing for some, especially those who would never have had access to the facilities and learning without The Glasshouse and its staff.”
The Glasshouse welcomes artists from a wide variety of genres; from classical, to pop and jazz. Recently, the Mercury Prize was held in Newcastle and The Glasshouse played a key role; they hosted the Mercury Fringe with performances from Black Country, New Road, Rufus Wainright, The Amy Winehouse Band and Cate Le Bon.
Our colleagues have enjoyed performances from Rick Astley, The Pet Shop Boys, Jason Donovan, and much more over the years.
