Norman Hunter
Operations Manager

Norman joined us just over ten years ago and has seen great changes at our Gateshead depot during those years.

Norman’s time before joining our team …

Norman brings a wealth of experience and skills to his current role, obtained by working in a diverse number of roles.

For many years, he worked as a banksman for a local brewery delivering across the north east.

For a number of years, Norman enjoyed working in social care with under-privileged children on a part-time basis. This involved sleeping over and ensuring the safety of the children in his care.

He then changed direction and became a warehouse manager which he enjoyed, before deciding to head to Pioneer where he picked up a role as delivery driver.

Norman’s passion in life, apart from his family, is Newcastle United Football Club. In fact, he loves football and for many years was involved in running youth and mens’ teams.

“A few years after joining Pioneer, a chance of promotion came along and I grabbed it with both hands! After a short trial period, I became permanent in the role of Operations Manager.

My current role is so diverse and every day is different. I work within a great team and really have the support of everyone!”

What does Norman’s role involve?

As Operations Manager, Norman is responsible for the smooth day-to-day running of our large and busy depot in Gateshead.

He’s in charge of the staffing levels and handles all the queries and issues this can bring; especially when recruitment is going through a challenging time. He has to ensure our fleet of vehicles is available, maintained and appropriate checks are carried out. He looks after the warehouse and works with a close knit team of colleagues to ensure stock levels are current, correct and products are delivered on time. An eye for detail is vital in such a key role and as our business continues to grow in the north east of England, his role becomes more challenging; which he thoroughly enjoys!

“I’ve worked for Pioneer for many years now and the best thing is working for a family business. I always feel I have the support and trust of Graham and David; after all I’m 65 miles away from head office and making the right decision quickly and correctly is imperative.

I always feel listened to and this is so important when sometimes you find yourself working in what can sometimes be quite a reactive role.”
