We recently promoted several of our logistics colleagues to create a new, efficient logistics management team.

Jonny Forsyth, Operations Director, now has a team made up of three supervisors and managers.

Wayne Sutherland has been with us for 17 years and is now a Logistics Supervisor alongside Sean Harrison, our new Transport Supervisor. Sean has worked for us for over 27 years and is extremely experienced in working with our fleet and drivers.

Chris Dicker is now serving as a Fleet Service Manager. Chris, with over 16 years of service, has previously worked as a fleet service engineer and brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

The team oversees the first-class delivery of orders to our customer base, managing our fleet, drivers and deliveries. They are also responsible for all our company vehicles which include the cars our sales managers and senior management team require.

It’s a busy team …

In total, the team oversees the service and efficient running of 108 vehicles. We have 60 drivers based in Carlisle and Harrington. Our Gateshead drivers are overseen by a different management team.

Jonny says: “Collectively, with over 74 years of experience, we provide an excellent and streamlined service to our customers. We make over 1,000 deliveries per week so we’re always extremely busy!

It’s important to acknowledge the strengths and skills within your team and we always look to promote within the company. We take their skills, hard work and dedication and reward them with a new and exciting challenge. As a business, we’re always happy to recognise and encourage our homegrown talent.”

What does the future hold?

We recently increased our drivers by 10% and we have plans to increase the team by 5% in Carlisle and 15% in Gateshead as our customer base and area increases.

We’re always looking for a new business challenge and growth; we now deliver into Harrogate, which is a brand new territory for us.

We are looking to increase our delivery days within Cumbria and of course, we look to the future regarding the environmental impact we make.

We’re planning to transfer our Carlisle fleet over to electric vehicles in the future. We’re awaiting technology which can power both the vehicles and also the refrigeration of goods and produce. This will be a massive investment for us, however we are completely committed to reducing our carbon footprint.

In a bid to cut our carbon footprint, we’ve expanded our fleet of vehicles to include a trunker wagon. The new wagon has helped us streamline deliveries and collections between Cumbria and the north east; we’ve decreased the number of vehicle journeys substantially. Read the full story here.
