Rowing for a cause: raising funds for Carlisle Youth Zone

We believe in giving back—and when it’s for a great local cause like Carlisle Youth Zone, our team goes the extra mile. Or, in this case, 33 of them!

Recently, our incredible staff took on the ambitious challenge of rowing the equivalent distance from our headquarters in Carlisle to our Harrington depot—an impressive 33 miles. Using a rowing machine set up in our foodstore, team members took turns powering through the distance, giving their all for a great cause. While we didn’t quite make it to Harrington this time, we did make it all the way to Bowness-on-Solway—and we’re proud of every stroke it took to get there!

The rowing winners …

Bob Banks (pictured left) and Aden Clifford (right) managed to row the furthest distance in the three minutes each challenger was set and they won a £50 Amazon voucher and £30 Auctioneer voucher respectively. Well done, guys!

The challenge was just the beginning. To keep the momentum going and spirits high, we also ran fun competitions and hosted a raffle with some amazing prizes, all donated by our generous suppliers and partners. Alongside our donations, we would like to send a huge thank you to Unilever, PepsiCo, Radnor Hills, Kellogg’s, Sweet Moments, and The Auctioneer for their kind contributions. Your support helped make our fundraising event even more special.

Carlisle Youth Zone provides a safe, welcoming space for young people in our community to learn, grow, and thrive. We’re thrilled to have played a part in supporting their mission and helping ensure that local youth continue to have access to vital resources and opportunities.

We’re excited to announce we raised a total of £435.22.

A massive thank you to everyone who donated, rowed, bought raffle tickets, or just cheered us on. This was a real team effort—and it’s just one more example of what can happen when we come together for something bigger than ourselves.

Here’s to making waves for good causes—and maybe next time, we’ll row all the way to Harrington!
