James Hill
Quarter Lounge and
Lounge on the Green Carlisle

The service from Pioneer is very good and they’re a big supporter of new businesses in the area. They’re so helpful – we get to sample different meats all the time, we’re able to phone John or David to discuss new menu ideas and they’re great at sourcing new products. They beat everyone’s prices too!
It may be a big company, but Pioneer is very much a family run business. You’re guaranteed a friendly, personal service.

Carlisle Living Awards

Once again we were proud to help the great city of
Carlisle celebrate the best it has to offer!

For the fourth year, we sponsored the food and drink category of the Carlisle Living Awards. These awards are independently judged and although, hotly contested, there is healthy competition and admiration amongst the finalists in each category.

The event is a really enjoyable evening and our sales director, David Jenkins, was honoured to give out the trophies to the winners.

This year’s well-deserved winners were:

  • Best Country Pub – The Plough Inn, Wreay

Michael Brown
Purchasing Director

The start of Michael’s career …

Just before his 19th birthday, Michael joined the Pioneer family.

His initial role as Coldstore Operative and as a qualified forklift driver involved him loading and unloading delivery vehicles and putting away delivered stock. An important role in the busy coldstore where orderliness is key to ensure customer deliveries are accurate and on time.

“I enjoy working for a strong family-run business which leads from the front, with ambition to grow and create great career opportunities in this region and I’m always encouraging my staff to aim for […]

Kevin Lightfoot
Cold Store Manager

Kevin joined the Pioneer team straight after leaving school,
so it’s the only place he’s ever worked and has plans to stay!

The start of Kevin’s career

Kevin’s first role was an order picker for frozen foods and meat orders. This was back in the days when our business was much smaller and before the new cold store extension was built separating frozen and ambient goods.

“I don’t want to work anywhere else
– I’ll be here forever!”

What did he do next?

Chris Austin
Davids Restaurant Carlisle

I’ve been a customer of Pioneer Foodservice for over 15 years and enjoy the personal hands-on approach, not only from the sales managers but the senior management team too. Nothing is ever too much trouble – they always go above and beyond to accommodate my requirements whether it be a new product or meeting me at the office out of hours for some extra steaks, they really do look after all their customers.
I’ve built my reputation on fillet steaks and we are proud to tell our customers they are supplied by Pioneer.

When Paul joined Pioneer straight from leaving school in 1985

From a delivery driver to working in our shop as a bacon butcher and cutting Lakeland steaks in our factory, Paul’s career has spanned many years and encompassed a wide variety of roles.

“I’m not one to sit still for long; I enjoy a challenge and when a post of Area Sales Manager cropped up, I jumped at the chance. There is no set […]

A cheesy visit

By |2017-09-14T11:31:48+01:00May 31st, 2017|Categories: Latest News|

Appleby Creamery have provided us with quality, artisan cheeses for many years now and most recently we have seen sales of their brie portions take off.

Our sales team visited the creamery on Wednesday 31st May to gain a greater understanding of the art of cheese-making and to sample some of their fine products.

The creamery is based in the historic, market town of Appleby-in-Westmorland and the team were met by Pete Crouch and Tom Jackson of […]
