Celebrating Women in Business

On Friday 8th March, we attended a Women in Business event at Carlisle Lake District Airport.

The event was organised by Natwest to celebrate International Women’s Day and invited working women from across the area to come together and celebrate success and achievement. Our marketing manager, Karen Graham, attended and represented us by showcasing a stand showing a huge array of local produce from suppliers that we work closely alongside. From Claire’s Handmade jams and chutneys, ales from Carlisle Brewing and Brack n Brew to gin from the Lakes Distillery, our stand attracted a lot of attention.

Another successful food show

Food show proves a tasty success!

On Sunday 24th and Monday 25th February we held our 21st food show for caterers. Held at The Shepherds in Carlisle, we welcomed over 600 of our customers to the much anticipated show over the two days.

Customers travelled from far and wide to take advantage of money-saving deals from over 60 national and regional suppliers. Suppliers were showcasing their product ranges and many new product launches were on display. Household names such as Heinz, Whitby Scampi and Nestlé were in attendance alongside an array of regional suppliers from Cumbria, Northumberland and Scotland.

Carlisle Skills Fair 2019

On Thursday 31st January, we attended Carlisle Skills Fair at the Sands Centre in Carlisle. The skills fair is an event where employers from the city come together to showcase career opportunities to those looking for new careers, advice or job opportunities.

Organised by John Stevenson, MP for Carlisle, the event is not only attended by local employers such as Pirelli, H&H Reeds Printers and Tesco, but also further and higher education providers; Carlisle College and the University of Cumbria. Many school children attend each year, seeking careers advice for their future and how to take advantage of opportunities available in the city.

Celebrating #CumbriaDay

On Wednesday 23rd January, Cumbrian MPs put aside their political differences to celebrate the best the county has to offer. The six MPs invited representatives from some top Cumbrian businesses and we were excited to be joining them!

Graham and David Jenkins set up stand in the Jubilee Room at Westminster to talk to MPs from across the political spectrum. A warm welcome to Stewart Jack

Stewart joins our Gateshead sales team and will be covering the Northumberland coast area. Our current manager, Rebecca Iredale, takes her maternity leave and Stewart will be covering her patch.

With his skills as a fully trained butcher, Stewart brings his knowledge and expertise to our customers who can take full advantage of his know-how! Although, new to a sales role, he is highly experienced in dealing with catering accounts. He’s looking forward to the new job and challenge ahead.

Celebrating Christmas Jumper Day 2018

On Friday 14th December, we donned our sparkliest, funniest and most festive jumpers to raise vital funds for Eden Valley Hospice. We celebrated Christmas Jumper Day and raised £142 for the Carlisle-based hospice.

Staff attend Leadership & Management Skills course

Recently, a number of our staff members attended and successfuly completed a Leadership & People Management Skills course.

Julie Bell Consulting Ltd held the two-day course at our headquarters in Rosehill, Carlisle.

Staff who attended the course are already in supervisory roles or stepping up to the role in the near future. The course covered the roles and responsibilities of a supervisor, self awareness, how to manage performance, setting work objectives, delegating tasks and building positive relationships with your role.

Spooky fun on the farm

Spooky fun at Walby Farm Park

Walby Farm Park is once again helping children and their families celebrate Halloween this week with hundreds flocking to their pumpkin patch.

The children’s attraction is at Crosby-on-Eden, just outside Carlisle, and is run by Neil Milbourn and his family. Every year they hold celebrations for Halloween during the October half-term holidays.

The children visit the pumpkin patch to pick their own pumpkin. They can then visit the tented area where staff are on hand to help them carve spooky faces into their pumpkins.

Throughout the day, there are themed shows and dramas taking place and many of their staff are dressed in scary outfits!

The Family Business Conference was held at The Castle Green Hotel in Kendal on Thursday 11th October. The conference brought together family businesses looking to learn from and network with other successful family businesses.
